Seaburn Dene Area & Property Guide

Property to buy and rent in Seaburn Dene Sunderland

If you’re searching for a home that’s close to the sea, while being within easy reach of Sunderland, Seaburn Dene might be the perfect location. All the attractions of sought-after Seaburn are close by, including the award-winning blue flag beaches, not to mention the popular Roker Pier. Alternatively, if you want a great night out, Sunderland City Centre is within walking distance or just three stops on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

The first part of Seaburn Dene was built just prior to the war, mainly Shields Road and Grizedale Court before being continued in earnest in the 1950s and 1960s.. As such, most of the properties date from this period onwards, and fans of art-deco living should explore the Shields Road area, where most of the pre-war homes can be found. The area has been extended in recent years, with a range of impressive new developments, such as The Square, with properties starting at £600,000.

It’s well served with a range of amenities including schools, shops and restaurants such as Bellinis and Miller & Carter and also Sunderland Driving Range is close by, there are some lovely green areas right on the doorstep, including Roker Park, which is a short stroll away. Fulwell Quarry Nature Reserve is further inland, but equally easy to get to. Staveley Road has always been popular as it backs onto the Dene, where many residents walk their dogs from their back gardens and children can play out back.

Properties in Seaburn Dene

Property to buy and rent in Seaburn Dene Sunderland

Seaburn Dene is a desirable residential area, and as such, properties don’t often come to the market. When they do, they tend to be snapped up quickly. Round Dovedale Road, you can expect to see plenty of large semi-detached homes, dating back to the 1930s to 1950s. These very much represent the dominant architectural style of the area.

Unsurprisingly, these semi-detached properties, with their gardens and driveways, are popular with families. Most offer generous living space (usually with two or even three reception rooms), plus three good-sized bedrooms. Some also come with garages, which is an added bonus.

There are also some modern estates in the area; ideal for those that prefer contemporary living. The Square development is a great example, with its range of attractive executive homes. Interestingly, these were among the most expensive ever constructed in the Sunderland area, which emphasises just how sought-after the location is.

Those working on a tighter budget shouldn’t be put off though, as there are equally some good-sized homes on the market at a competitive price. This makes it the perfect area for first-time buyers and established home-owners alike.
