South Shields Area and Property Guide

Property to buy and rent in South Shields Sunderland

South Shields is one of Tyne and Wear’s most popular seaside locations. Like many towns, it grew substantially during the Industrial Revolution, and its historic past is still evident to this day, thanks to its wealth of period buildings.

People of all ages flock to this location, not just to soak up the coastal ambiance, but also to make the most of South Shields’ diverse array of homes, which are competitively priced when compared to the national average.

The town also benefits from close proximity to Newcastle Upon Tyne and Sunderland, which are both just a few miles away. This is excellent news for commuters; and for those that like to have easy access to top-quality city attractions.

Properties in South Shields

Property to buy and rent in South Shields Sunderland

This town is arguably one of the best-loved residential areas in the region. This is partly because of its coastal location, and partly due to its attractive period houses. Even better, the properties are reasonably priced, which means buyers can get a lot more home for their money here.

At one end of the market, you’ll find some stunning Victorian houses, with multiple bedrooms and reception rooms, plus a wealth of period features. Westoe Village is a good place to search for these spacious family-sized homes, or sought-after locations like Beach Road.

Growing families often focus on the 1920s semi-detached homes, which usually come with a driveway, garden, and lots of living space. There are also some generously proportioned detached new-builds in South Shield, which can be purchased for around the same price.

First-time buyers will be amazed at just how much choice there is on the market, with some two-bedroomed terraced houses being priced as low as £70,000. There’s also a wealth of maisonettes and apartments available; with many being situated in sub-divided Victorian or Georgian houses.

If you’re keen to purchase an older property, start your search in the streets nearer the coast, or in Westoe Village. However, if you’re a fan of contemporary living, Westoe Crown Village, Riverside and Wallsend are among the best developments to consider.
